Lot's Cave

The Sanctuary of Lot was discovered near modern day Safi. It is the place where Lot and his daughters are believed to have taken refuge in a cave after God destroyed the city of Sodom, according to the Book of Genesis. The cave is in a hill overlooking the Dead Sea and a Byzantine monastery sits next to the site with living quarters and burial chambers, indicating the place has been inhabited as early as 3000 BC.
